The CAPPLUS ISMA is a handheld device designed to quickly and nondestructively determine the relative moisture of a softgel capsule shell. Serving as a quick and easy alternative to the softgel LOD test, this analyzer measures moisture content within 5 seconds with an accuracy to one decimal point. It operates by indirectly measuring the electrical resistance through the softgel shell; as shell moisture increases, electrical resistance decreases. Because the electrical resistance of water is roughly one billion times higher than most metals, the unit utilizes precise electronics to measure this high resistance. The device measures moisture content ranging from 5% to 20%, and its cup volume holds approximately fifty #10 oval softgels.
